I just bought a new car, and decided to get all the bells and whistles. For instance, instead of a side view mirror, I got a funhouse mirror. It works just like a regular mirror, except it has a warning that reads, “Objects In Mirror Aren’t As Funny As They Appear.”

A Very Special Correction

I’ve been informed by an angry mob on my front lawn that – to most people, anyway – March 8^th is officially called “International Women’s Day.” I’m sorry if I ruffled a few feathers out there but it certainly wasn’t my intention. 

You see, when I was growing up, International Romans’ Day was always a big deal in the Scarecrow household. Even now, I can picture those heady childhood days when we’d all break out our togas and helmets, crack open a few ice-cold Dr. Peppers, and throw our neighbours to the lions. How was I supposed to know my parents were nuttier than a two-dollar coffee cake?

Ah, well! Live and learn…

I wonder if it’s not too late to return that chariot I bought on Kijiji.

A Very Special Announcement

I want to take a quick moment to remind you that today is March 8^th and one of the most momentous occasions of the year – International Romans Day!

Now, I know what you’re thinking. Why should I give a rat’s ass about a bunch of people who wore leaves on their heads and died hundreds of years ago? I’ll tell you why. Just about every major facet of our world was originally created by…wait for it…the Romans!

Don’t believe me? Okay…

Who invented the calendar? The Romans.

Bridges and highways? The Romans.

Mayonnaise? Hangnails? The cast of Hardcastle and McCormick?

Sorry, it wasn’t Stephen J. Cannell. Or even Aaron Spelling.

I’ll give you a hint...

We didn’t get around to discussing The Scarecrow Report, come to think of it. But we did agree on a couple of things. Abe Vigoda never really got the recognition he deserved on TV’s Fish. And – for our money, anyway – no one can quite wrap their lips around a tune like Barnes & Barnes. You be the judge...
